Lakeline Station Apartments: Austin’s First Net Zero-Energy Building

Foundation Communities’ Lakeline Station Apartments and Learning Center had its grand opening and has been in the news! We are so grateful to be a part of the Foundation Communities team with H+UO, Civilitude, BEC Austin, Hatch Workshop, Harvested Rain Solutions and Cleanscapes Landscaping.

The landscape architecture focuses on Foundation Communities’ core mission to provide more than just a roof over people’s heads by creating a place for community, education, activities, and child care. The housing buildings face a central courtyard that has a large lawn for games and gathering, two playgrounds, picnic tables and seating and a native, edible garden for the Learning Center.

The grand opening of Lakeline Station  revealed  a place for community education, activities, and child care. Studio Balcones created a functional and productive landscape that echoes its Central Texas location.

These 2,500 gallon rainwater cisterns provide water to irrigate native plants inhabiting the Lakeline Station landscape. Garden beds near the main gathering space utilize hardy, low-water plants like Prickly Pear and Yaupon Holly help reach Living Building Challenge’s petals criteria.
