Office Field Trip!!

Last week the Studio Balcones ladies ventured out of the office and into the August heat for a much needed field trip.  First we visited the Far South Nursery, where we toured the facilities with Crystal and the resident nursery pup.  We saw some of our favorite plants that are frequently used in designs like Clover Fern, Ghost Plant and Mexican Feather Grass.  We discovered new varieties and colors of our preferred plants and were introduced to completely new species such as Paddle Plant, Variegated Adam’s Needle Yucca and Nimblewill Muhly.  The possibilities are endless!  Ilse and Jennifer are very excited to expand the Studio Balcones plant palette!

After lunch we made our second stop in San Marcos.  At the Madrone Nursery, the owner kindly showed us around his ranch.  Dan, a specialist in the Asteraceae plant family, had impressive knowledge of native and adapted species suited for our Texas conditions.  Combining research and business, Dan has established a beautiful country nursery.  His property includes his ranch, library, a deerskin teepee and an entourage of Blue Lacey dogs (which I learned is the state dog of Texas), chickens, roosters, peacocks and guineas.  All in all, our field trip was a success; the perfect mix of business and pleasure!
