This new residential tower in downtown Austin features sweeping views of the Austin skyline from an elevated pool deck, designed by Studio Balcones in partnership with the building architect. The platform’s jagged edge traces Austin’s capitol view corridor, a 1983 act that protects views of the Texas State Capitol, defining an asterisk-shaped network of airspace for the city’s elevated landscapes. The planting design borrows from nearby Enchanted Rock, a granite pluton batholith located in the Llano Uplift. The amenity deck includes shallow planters populated with native and adapted species that survive in inches of soil – mimicking Central Texas plants’ ability to survive in thin soils on windswept cliffs. The entry landscape steel planter echoes the building’s jagged edges, with a muted planting palette of greens and blues.
